Joey Santore is a huge part of why I got into gardening, and is the main inspiration for me making this website. Joey is the foul-mouthed Chicagoan botanist specializing in native endemic plant gardening, and land conservation is at the forefront of everything he does. He has authored books on the topic, and has dedicated his life to preserving the thornscrubs of Southern Texas. Joey has a wealth of information on his website including where to find native plant nurseries near you. Joey's YouTube channel called 'Crime Pays but Botany Doesn't' has many hours of valuable and entertaining botany info. Please consider picking up his newest publication 'Concrete Botany' for a better understanding of why so many gardeners like me are passionate about this subject.
Epic Gardening is a business founded by Kevin Espiritu in 2013. Through his YouTube channel, he was able to grow a massive audience and leverage that into a full-time career. Kevin and his pseudo-collective of gardening gurus have managed to shift from entertainment to education, to a fully-fledged successful business with dozens of employees. Kevin understands the trials and tribulations of learning to garden better than almost anyone, and hosts nearly ~800 videos and counting on his YouTube channel which you can access for free to learn everything you need to become a true green thumb.
bplant.org is a citizen science project focused on restoring and preserving plant biodiversity, and as a result, insect biodiversity. This website contains a ton of useful information which will help any gardener interested in rewilding, and learning to identify plants native to their region. Pay them a visit and utilize their interactive map for free!
iNaturalist is a non-profit organization and citizen science project. Their free smart phone app helps you identify the plants, fungi, and animals around you while generating data for science and conservation. There is no charge to use their resources, all that they ask is that you help add to their dataset by contributing your own observations. You don't have to create an account; just snap a photo, upload it, and leave the rest to other community members if you feel so inclined.
